With the recent string of bad weather across the Big Country, it's time to think about insurance, for your antiques that is.

"Everybody is watching the sky right now," says B.J. Smith, Owner of Antique & Almost, "and it seems like we're having a pretty heavy bit of activity in Texas."

Smith advises that when it comes to your priceless treasures, they can't be replaced, but they can be appraised before disaster strikes.

"If you have an appraisal for the major things in your home before a storm hits, then you would be protected."

When it comes to your antiques, Smith says the last thing you want, is an insurance adjuster deciding how much your valuables are worth.

But bad weather isn't the only motivation to get your priceless items appraised.

"If you're going to load up antiques and move them across the country, you need an appraisal in hand before they ever start loading," says Smith.

Depending on the amount of antiques needing to be appraised, Smith says the whole process doesn't take very long and will leave you with a detailed documentation of your precious belongings.
