City of Brownwood Authorizes 1-Time Additional Watering Day

Brown County Water Improvement District needs to run acceptance testing on their new water treatment facility at a max rate to make sure they can meet the needs of its customers in peak demand. Due to conservation plan restrictions currently in place, the plant will need to produce more water than customers are currently using. To help facilitate this very important test and to allow the water to be beneficially used, the City of Brownwood is authorizing an additional watering day for this one time event. With the exception of these test days, Stage 3 requirements are still in effect and will continue until further notice.

For schools, parks, sports fields, & HPU the additional day to water is May 9th.

For residents and businesses the additional day to water is May 10th.

Swimming pools may be filled on the 9th-10th of May with no violation.

Water waste is prohibited. Water waste is defined as allowing runoff in the streets or alleys, over watering of lawns, or leaking pipes that are not repaired.

City Manager Bobby Rountree stated, "I believe most of our citizens understand the issue of drought and will do what it takes to preserve our resources. Please use this water wisely. Free information on ways to conserve is available at the City of Brownwood city hall in our public information center on topics including indoor, outdoor usage. We also have information on our website."

The Brown County Independent reports that the city of Bangs is also allowing the additional water times. They state "Due to citizen requests following the announcement that Brownwood water customers would be permitted to fill swimming pools on May 9 and 10 as part of testing the capacity of the Brown County Water Improvement District's microfiltration water treatment plant, Bangs residents are being permitted to fill swimming pools on those two days - Wednesday, May 9 and Thursday, May 10 - without violation or excessive use surcharge. To avoid the surcharge, residents must call city hall at 752-6223 and request a meter reading before and after filling their pools."

Please note that this extra watering day does not apply to the city of Early or Zephyr.
