Brown Co. Officials Nab 18 Drug Suspects in 'Operation Baker's Dozen'

The Brown County Sheriff's Office reports that Deputies arrested 18 people Wednesday on several charges, including engaging in organized crime.

In an investigation deemed "Operation Baker's Dozen," Brown County Deputies assembled to take down 13 higher-level drug traffickers for engaging in organized crime, along with eight other suspects indicted for related felony offenses.

As the arrests began, three additional suspects were arrested for various related felony offenses, bringing the total number of suspects to 24. At the time of publishing, 18 of the 24 suspects have been arrested.

The investigation began on Christmas Day 2011 when narcotics officers received tips that a drug dealer known as "Boss" was in Brown County for the night. Officers were able to identify "Boss" as Keith Martin (pictured), who was known as a high-profile drug dealer, according to the report.

Officers were also given a physical description of Martin, and after following leads and executing search warrants, were able to target lower level dealers associated with his distribution network, which reportedly extended into several central Texas counties.

Officials estimate 1.8 pounds of methamphetamine and 40 pounds of marijuana were distributed in Brown County by Martin's distribution network between May of last year and January 2012.

The investigation also revealed two pregnant women who officers identified as meth users, according to the report. Brown County Sheriff's Office is now working with Child Protective Services to handle these particular cases.

It's a "political round up" 5 days before the start of early voting for the sheriff's race. I predicted this would happen as a publicity stunt. I was right. Eight of those involved had outstanding warrants as a result of indictments. I will also add there are many times ONE deputy is on patrol here in Brown County. That's not competent leadership.
