Higher than expected revenue from the sales tax is giving the city a budget surplus, and city officials are asking the council to consider a list of projects that could use some of that money.
Abilene Police Chief Stan Standridge is asking the council to consider the purchase of a new armored vehicle that would be used to help protect the police department's swat team.
Other projects would include parks improvements.
The council agreed to consider the proposals, but did not yet approve plans to spend any of the expected budget surplus.
