Man Slips Out of Handcuffs, Tries to Steal DPS Car

A man was arrested Thursday morning after trying to steal a DPS car in Eastland County.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reports that 40-year-old Chris Eugene Durham of Fort Worth flagged down a State Trooper on Interstate 20 just east of Cisco and said his wife was having a heart attack.

The trooper then called for an ambulance, which responded along with the Cisco Police Department and Eastland County Sheriff's Officers, only to find that she was not having a heart attack.

Durham's strange behavior prompted the officers to search his vehicle, where they found drugs and arrested him, according to the report.

The suspect managed to slip out of the handcuffs and begin fighting with officers before jumping into the DPS vehicle and attempting to drive away.

Officers shot out the vehicle's tires, but Durham continued driving until he crashed not far away.

Durham was arrested again, but continued to resist all the way to the Eastland County Jail.

DPS says charges against Durham are pending.
