TxDOT Plans I-20 Resurfacing in Taylor Co.

By: News Release-Texas Department of Transportation
Updated: May 11, 2012
TxDOT plans to begin a project late next week to resurface about 8 miles of I-20 west of Abilene if materials are dry enough after recent rains.

The project will resurface the main lanes of the interstate from .35 miles west of Wells Lane to Shirley Road. The resurfacing material will include "Class A" aggregate material, which offers improved long-term traction characteristics over traditional aggregates used in hot mix paving materials. Work should be complete by early fall, weather permitting. Contract Paving Co. of Tye is the contractor for the $4.3 million project.

While the road is under construction, drivers should watch for lane closures and workers in the area. TxDOT advises drivers to avoid distractions and take extra care in work zones because conditions can change frequently.
