Eastland Breaks Ground on Dialysis Center

By: News Release-City of Eastland
Updated: May 11, 2012
Local community members approached Eastland Memorial Hospital about providing outpatient dialysis services to the Eastland area. Several community members and the Eastland Economic Development Inc (EEDI) contributed money and land to build the center.

AccessCare Dialysis, LLC, a provider for rural outpatient dialysis centers was engaged to be the provider at the new center Williams Scotsman, Inc has been selected as the general contractor for the project. The center will be approximately 3,200 square feet and will feature twelve dialysis stations. The cost of the project is estimated to be $950,000. Once completed, the center will be able to provide services to a maximum of 60 patients from Eastland and the surrounding area.

The anticipated completion date is the end of July 2012 with Medicare certification following. The certification process is expected to be complete by November 2012. The need for an outpatient dialysis center in the Eastland area is well identified.

Currently, dialysis patients drive three times each week to Abilene (120-mile round trip) for a four-hour treatment. Patients need these services each week and missing even one appointment may greatly affect their health. Transportation is often provided by a family member or friend because the dialysis patient may be too weak to drive.

In February 2011, an ice storm that lasted a week made the drive to Abilene very hazardous. Local community members with four-wheel drive vehicles volunteered to drive the dialysis patients for their treatments.
