Local Mail Couriers Deliver Thousands of Food Items

United states postal workers were out delivering mail today as usual, but this time they were also picking things up.

Today mail couriers from around the nation helped deliver food items to local food pantries as part of the 20th annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Postal workers in the Key City visited more than 50,000 homes collecting donated food items left for them in specially marked bags.

They spent the majority of the afternoon sorting and weighing in all of the donated items which quickly filled up the West Texas Food Pantry in Abilene.

"Today the carriers all throughout the area-the rural carriers, city carriers picked up non perishable food items and as you can see behind us- the guys that stepped up to the plate and all the food and stuff so its just to help out the less fortunate in the community," said USPS mail courier Ron Eudy.

They say it's been one of the best years so far for the Key City, largely in part because of the new bags.

They say received about double what they received so far last year.
