"The children that will benefit from the money earned are very deserving. They've been through a lot. And they deserve to have a wish come true," said Cherie McCray.

Hayden McCray may love video games and being outdoors, but he's not your typical fifteen year old boy.

"Hayden had a traumatic brain injury and so we've gone through several months of rehab to get him back on his feet," said Cherie, Hayden's mother.

After overcoming his injury, Hayden's wish to go to Hawaii is coming true.

"I'm pretty excited. It really was the only place i thought would be a once in a life time trip," he said.

And it was Hayden's ability to overcome the difficulties of his injury that made his doctors nominate him for the make a wish foundation.

"They thought that he's overcome the injury so well and has done so well that's he's very deserving of it," said Cherie.

Hayden and his mother were special guests at the Run for Wishes 5k, an event that helped raise money to help grant wishes, including Hayden's.

"It felt pretty good that people would come together to help someone else," said Hayden.

Now that his wish is being granted, Hayden gets to enjoy his trip and be a teenager.

"It's been so nice. We've gone through so much," said Cherie. "And all of the hard work and rehab, it's nice to see him get to get away from it all and have a moment to relax and just be a teenage boy."

Last week's raised enough money to help grant a couple wishes for a few local kids here in Abilene. Hayden and his family will be going to Hawaii at the end of the month.
