APD: Man on Bicycle Refuses to Stop, Pulls Cocaine from Sock

Saturday night at about 8:20, Officer Roger Romero observed a male subject operating a bicycle on the wrong side of the roadway and attempted to contact the cyclist for the traffic violation. Officer Romero had to call out to the cyclist to stop, but the subject shook his head and continued cycling. Officer Romero followed the subject with his emergency lights activated until the man finally stopped in the 600 block of Ash Street. Officer Romero observed the subject reach down into his sock and then place his hand at this mouth. The subject was quickly arrested. A search of the subject revealed a white rock-like substance in the man's sock that tested positive for cocaine. The subject was arrested for possession of controlled substance to wit: cocaine, tampering with evidence, evading arrest and for operating bicycle on wrong side of roadway.

Sunday morning at about 5:20 a.m., Officer Edward Cutbirth was dispatched to the 3700 block of Patriot Drive to assist City Marshall Tristan Parnell with an uncooperative male subject. Marshall Parnell had responded to a loud noise complaint in the apartment complex. Upon his arrival, Officer Cutbirth observed Marshall Parnell attempting to restrain the subject and he assisted with the arrest. During the search of the subject, the subject continued to resist and struggle with the officers while yelling obscenities. The man continued to resist arrest and was finally subdued and taken to county jail. The male subject was arrested for resisting arrest and for noise disturbance.

This morning at about 12:35, Officer Chris Volirakis contacted a motorist for a traffic violation that nearly caused a collision in the 1500 block of North Eighth Street. When Officer Volirakis contacted the male driver of the vehicle he smelled the strong odor of alcohol coming from the man. His investigation revealed that the driver had indicators of intoxication and that the driver further produced fraudulent identification cards. The driver was given standard field sobriety tests which he failed. The driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated and taken to county jail where he provided breath samples. A breath sample taken revealed the driver's BAC to be 0.118. The man was also arrested on the charge of tamper with government record. Both charges are misdemeanors.
