"He took history and made it alive for students," said Madison 8th grade history teacher Colleena Shriver.

Madison Middle School was quiet today. After learning of the death of 8th grade history teacher Stanley Hicks, he will be remembered for the good man he was.

"He was a good man. He was honest, he was sincere and a good hearted person," said Madison principal George McFarland. "A good representative of our campus."

But many students remember him for his ability to take those struggling outside of the classroom and take them under his wing.

"Take them and let them work with him on his farm and on his ranch. And that's where they learned a lot of things about life that they didn't learn in the textbook," said Shriver.

And the former college football player will also be remembered for his passion of country music.

"I best remember him on his porch, playing his guitar as the kids are changing classes," Shriver said.

It was Hicks' ability to connect with his students and his lessons that hold true outside of the classroom that  will be missed the most.

"A lot of the former students and the students that he has now are going to really miss him. Because he has taught them more than what was in the textbook," said Shriver.

Funeral services for Stanley hicks will be held this Friday at the Buffalo Gap Pavilion. Services start at 6:30 pm, and everyone is welcome to come celebrate his life.
