David William Shifflet of Snyder was handed down a pair of concurrent four-year sentences in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for a New Year's Eve incident.

Shifflet, 28, entered a pair of guilty pleas to two counts of injury to a child, a third degree felony, in District Judge Ernie B. Armstrong's courtroom recently.

The pleas were for a Dec. 31, 2011 incident in which Shifflet was accused of striking two different minors with a belt.

In addition to his time in prison, Shifflet was ordered to pay a total of $3,000 in fines, $1,796 in court and attorney fees and $190 in restitution.

Sheila Ann Carmack, 31, of Snyder, also entered a guilty plea in Armstrong's courtroom.

She entered the plea to a Nov. 2, 2011 charge of taking a prohibited substance into a correctional facility, which is a third degree felony.

Carmack was given a fiveyear probated sentence and ordered to pay a $1,500 fine, $140 in restitution and $908 in court and attorney fees, as well as participate in the TAIP program.
