New Shaded Playground Unveiled

By: Adam Singleton
Updated: May 15, 2012
On Tuesday afternoon Blue Cross/Blue Shield unveiled the newest place for kids to play this summer.

The insurance company teamed up with Kaboom, the American Cancer Society and the Alliance for Women and Children to build a shaded playground designed to create a more comfortable playing environment for youngsters.

The shade keeps the playground up to 20 degrees cooler and prevents slides and other equipment from overheating.

"You know in Abilene, Texas if you've been here any time it can get up to be 110, so therefore we needed somewhere where children could still come out and be safe but be cool," says Dee Moore
of Blue Cross/Blue Shield

The playground is located at the Alliance for Women and Children on North 10th and is open to the public during business hours.
