The McMurry War Hawks announced that Chris Beard was the new men's basketball head coach on Monday. Today he met the media and the War Hawks' fans.

Beard spent 10 years at Texas Tech as an assistant for Bobby and Pat Knight. Before that, Beard spent 2 seasons as an assistant for Shannon Hays.

Beard is at McMurry, now, and he's glad to be leading the War Hawks,

Beard said, "When a special opportunity comes across your desk, you can't pass it up. Certainly, this was all about Rob Holmes, our athletic director. When Ron Holmes calls you answer the phone, and you listen about what he has to say. After listening to him and seeking advice from some of the guys that are mentors to me, guys that I've worked for and played for over the years, I just thought this was an opportunity that I couldn't pass up. "

Beard has a career 73-20 record as a head coach at the junior college and pro levels. he is the 4th men's basketball coach at McMurry in the last 3 years.
