War Hawks Remain Atop Rankings

By: Dave Beyer, McMurry Sports Information
Updated: May 16, 2012
Both of McM's programs are the highest-ranked teams from the American Southwest Conference.

The McMurry men generated a score of 249.05 points in this week's ranking. Second-ranked Wisconsin-LaCrosse has 150.90, followed by Wisconsin-Oshkosh at 150.70 and defending national champ North Central College with 144.40 points.

McM's women have a score of 60.01 points and trail No. 12 MIT's tally of 62.27.

Entries for the NCAA III championships are based on a performance list for each gender.  The top-20 male and top-22 female individuals in each event receive berths at the championships. The top-16 teams in relay events qualify, as well.

With just three days remaining before the cutoff for qualifiers and the announcement of the field for nationals this coming Monday, McMurry's program is well represented.  Currently, the McM men have a total of 29 qualifiers (27 individuals and both relays). McMurry leads the national qualifiers in five events. The War Hawk women have nine spots (seven individuals and two relays).

The McMurry men's margin of victory in the ASC championships three weeks ago - a whopping 162 points ahead of UT-Tyler - was the biggest cushion by any four-year school in the nation at any level this year during a men's conference championship meet. The War Hawks' 330 points was also the most total points by any NCAA affiliate at any level.
