APD: Drunken Man Passes Out with Car Running on Highway Median

Last night at about 11:05, Officer Chris Jennings contacted a motorist in the 1100 block of Briarwood Street for driving with no lights on. Officer Jennings contacted the male driver and smelled the strong odor of alcohol coming from him. His investigation revealed that the driver had indicators of intoxication. The driver was given standard field sobriety tests which he failed. The driver was arrested and taken to county jail where he provided breath samples. Breath samples taken revealed the driver's BAC to be 0.203 and 0.186. The driver was arrested for an enhanced misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated due to his level of intoxication being above a BAC of 0.15.

Early this morning at about 12:15, Officer Jesus Villarreal contacted a motorist in the 5000 block of US Highway 277 for a traffic violation. Officer Villarreal contacted the male driver and smelled the strong odor of alcohol coming from him. His investigation revealed that the driver had indicators of intoxication. The driver was given standard field sobriety tests which he failed. The driver was arrested and taken to county jail where he provided breath samples. Breath samples taken revealed the driver's BAC to be 0.093 and 0.096. A records check revealed the driver to have five previous convictions for driving while intoxicated (DWI). The driver was arrested for an enhanced felony charge of DWI due to his previous convictions.

This morning at about 1:15, a concerned citizen notified APD that a vehicle had been left running was stationary in the median of US Highway 83/84 and that the driver of the vehicle appeared to be passed out. Officer Chris Jennings was dispatched to check on the welfare of the driver. Officer Jennings located the vehicle and contacted the sole occupant behind the wheel of the vehicle. Officer Jennings smelled the strong odor of alcohol coming from the subject and his investigation revealed that the subject had indicators of intoxication. The subject was given standard field sobriety tests which he failed. The subject was arrested for driving while intoxicated and taken to county jail where he refused to provide breath samples.
