Ballinger Names Justin Wiley As New AD & Head Football Coach

By: Ballinger ISD
Updated: May 19, 2012

Ballinger ISD is pleased to announce the naming of Justin Wiley as the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach.  Coach Wiley has served as the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Class AAA Smithville for the past 5 years.

Smithville had won five total games including a 32 game losing streak during the previous seven football seasons prior to 2007.  This year Smithville finished 2nd in a competitive Class AAA district and advanced to the playoffs for the first time in 13 years while posting the school's best season record since 1971.  At the conclusion of this football season, Coach Wiley was named the 2011 Coach of the Year by the Austin American-Statesman for all classifications and was named Honorable Mention Coach of the Year on the All-Texas Team by TXprepsfootball.com.

While at Smithville, the individual and team sports flourished within the athletic program under Coach Wiley's guidance.  Last year, every sport at Smithville advanced to the post season except volleyball and softball.  While those two sports did not advance, they posted their highest finish (4th) in school history.  The number of students participating in Smithville athletics from 7th to 12th grades in both boys and girls more than doubled during his tenure.

Not only is Coach Wiley strong in athletics, but as a Certified Secondary Composite Science and Speech Communications teacher, he also understands that the primary mission of Ballinger ISD is to promote strong academics.  During his tenure at Smithville, Coach Wiley assisted in implementing an academic tutorial program for the student athletes that was well received by the teachers.  This program helped in moving Smithville High School from Academically Acceptable to Recognized.

Coach Wiley is certainly no stranger to Ballinger ISD as well as Bearcat and Lady Bearcat Athletics.  Having grown up in Ballinger, Coach Wiley understands the tradition of our great school district.  Coach Wiley is married to Michele, a Brownwood native, and has two sons, Jaxson and Jagger.

We look forward to the Justin Wiley family joining our community as Coach Wiley implements his vision of "Riding for the Brand."
