APD: Intoxicated Man Passes Out Behind Wheel at Intersection

On Saturday morning at approximately 5:00, Officer Ralph Garcia was dispatched to a disturbance in progress at a residence in the 2800 block of Sayles Boulevard. APD was contacted and told there was fighting going on between two male subjects. Officer Garcia arrived on scene where he met with all involved parties. His investigation revealed that a male suspect had claimed he had been assaulted by his girlfriend and that he had restrained his girlfriend. The female victim alleged that she did hit her boyfriend but that the boyfriend held her down and punched her. The victim had visible bruising on her forehead. The victim`s cousin, a male (victim #2), tried to intervene during the altercation and the suspect punched victim #2 causing him pain. Victim #2 alleged that his airway was restricted by the male suspect and could not breathe during his assault. The male suspect was arrested for felony assault family violence.
Last night at approximately 11:40, APD was contacted by an observant security guard from a business in the 5400 block of North Third Street reporting a burglary in progress. The guard had seen a person crawl into the fenced yard of the business. The guard remained on the line with an APD dispatcher as officers converged to the scene. As officers began to search the area, a man was seen exiting the gate of the business by a K-9 officer. The suspect then began to run from the business into a wooded area but was arrested after a lengthy pursuit. Sgt. Jason Haak's investigation revealed that the male suspect was in possession of stolen property from a vehicle the suspect had burglarized inside the fenced yard. A check of records revealed the suspect to have previous convictions for theft. The man was arrested on the following charges: an enhanced charge of theft; evading arrest; and criminal trespass.
Just before 1:00 this morning, Officer Mary Guitar was dispatched to an injured subject call at the intersection of Turner and Ridgemont Drive. A concerned citizen had notified APD that a man was behind the wheel of a vehicle and it appeared the man had passed out with his foot on the brake. Officer Guitar arrived to discover a vehicle stopped in the intersection and that a male subject was passed out behind the steering wheel with the engine running. Officer Guitar contacted the male subject and was able to speak with him. While speaking with the subject, Officer Guitar observed several indicators of intoxication and also observed an open can in the center console that contained alcohol. The subject was given standard field sobriety tests which he failed, and arrested for driving while intoxicated. During the search of the subject, several medications were located inside a baggie. The subject did not have any prescriptions for those medications. The investigation further revealed that the subject had ingested the medications with alcohol. The subject was arrested and taken to county jail on the following charges: possession of controlled substance (Oxycodone); possession of a controlled substance (Diazepam); possession of a dangerous drug (Tramadol); and for driving while intoxicated with open container. The subject provided a specimen of his blood that will be analyzed for the presence of narcotics and alcohol.
