After the fire the house was purchased by the Abilene Preservation League. "Our model is called 'Purchase, Stabilize and Sell'", says Bill Mentor, of APL.
Numerous construction jobs guarantee this house is structurally sound. Now they tell us the house will sell for much less than they originally invested in it, "It's probably a fraction of what we have put into it", says Mentor.
The adventurous buyer who wants to own this home will certainly be part of a niche market, who values a good "fixer upper". Mentor explains the buyer type, "We've run into a few people who are not surprised at all by the challenges that the house has".
The house is also a certified national, state, and local historic landmark. Interested buyers can come walk through the house starting June 1st and see for themselves this piece of history that's withstood many years in Abilene.
