Seven of eight hotel occupancy tax
fund requests received full funding from
the Snyder Chamber of Commerce board
of directors Monday night.
Overall, the board allocated $38,400 for seven events and one project. The only event which did not receive full funding was Bullies for Autism.
The July 21 dog show and competition is a one-day event scheduled at Towle Park. Some board members questioned if hotel rooms would be booked for the event while the competition schedule, noon to 6 p.m., also caused concern.
Joe Salinas, who made the presentation for the event, said many dog owners would spend the night because the competition would tire both the animal and handlers
The group was seeking $5,600 with its budget set at $5,581. A motion was made to fund the event for $5,600, but was withdrawn because of hotel night concerns. A second motion was made to fund the event for $2,500 which would cover advertising and other expenses.
That motion passed with only Bill Crist voting against the funding.
The only other request which raised concerns was $900 for the Scurry County Museum's planned Texas Rangers speaker event scheduled for July 7. Crist said he thought that funding for two other museum events, which do not put heads in beds, was intended as an "umbrella" that covered all the museum's events.
