Texas Tribune Releases Children at Risk's 2012 School Rankings

Aiming to provide an alternative to state ratings, which the Houston-based nonprofit advocacy and research organization viewed as too heavily dependent on standardized test scores, the group developed its own system in 2006.
This year's rankings are based on 16 criteria, including completion of Advanced Placement courses, SAT and ACT scores, attendance and graduation rates, which are adjusted to account for each school's percentage of economically disadvantaged students. Data used for the rankings is culled from the Texas Education Agency.
