Ike Flooding Caught on Camera

Dramatic video from south Cameron High school in Creole, Louisiana taken immediately before the arrival of Hurricane Ike.

Thanks to a sophisticated security system installed on school grounds, we're able to show you just a glimpse of the devastation that took place in Cameron Parish on that fateful day.

Devastated by Hurricane Rita three years ago, south Cameron high school was slowly making its way back.

That is, until the early morning hours of September 12th.

In surveillance video taken nearly 16 hours before Ike made landfall, flooding from storm surge is already apparent on school grounds.

This video has been sped up 700% from its normal speed, but in real-time, this flooding takes place within a matter of just six minutes or less.

The flooding is shown throughout the entire campus; from the walkways between the temporary buildings, to the water that overtakes the football stadium, nearly every inch of campus is inundated with water.

Not even the inside of the building is spared.

Although it's hard to see, water covers the school's gymnasium.

This water was only a preview of the worst that was yet to come.

Experts say that the storm surge reached nearly 12 feet in Cameron Parish, easily surpassing the surge from Rita.

Despite the fact that south Cameron high school is damaged, the school will resume classes at a temporary location in Lake Charles on October 13th.
