McMurry Locked-And-Loaded For Saturday's Finale At NCAA Track

CLAREMONT, Calif. - After two days at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships, McMurry University head coach Barbara Crousen's men's team has "banked" much capital, but with little to show for it on the scoreboard.

However, tomorrow's final day will be when the War Hawks find out if their efforts thus far pay dividends. On Friday, McM's men's team had three more individuals advance through preliminary rounds - where no points are scored - to give the team a total of six individuals and a relay team ready to enhance McMurry's point tally (still at two points).

Additionally, the War Hawk men will have three competitors in the triple jump and one in the shot put, all of which are also finals.

On Friday, senior Kevin Cunningham reached the 400 meter finals with a time of 48.11 seconds. It was the best time of his heat and the fifth-best overall qualifying mark.

In the men's 100 meter preliminaries, junior Kenneth Turner advanced with the preliminaries' second-best time of 10.50 seconds. Teammate Trevon Odom failed to reach the finals after a time of 10.77 in the prelim run.

Freshman hurdler Junior Saint Preux - who entered the competition with the nation's best time (14.00) in the 110 hurdles - also advanced. Despite clipping the first hurdle and running one of his slowest times of the year in the event, 14.34 seconds, Saint Preux was second in his heat and fourth overall.

In the men's high jump, Jujuan Austin managed a height of 6 4 " and failed to advance to the finals in his event. Austin was 16th overall.

There was just one women's event for McMurry on Friday in the 10 meter preliminaries. Kendra Coleman ran a time of 12.18 seconds, finishing fifth in her heat and 16th overall, also failing to reach the finals.

Saturday's slate of events begins at 12:50 p.m. (PT) for McMurry with the men's triple jump.  McMurry's women will also have Shanita Coleman in the triple jump and Destiny Kesee in the shot put on the women's side.
