"Who wouldn't want to put flags on the people that died for this country? It's truly an honor," said First Class Airman Timothy Busbee.
Volunteers from Dyess, local families, girl scout and boy scouts troops were out at the State Veterans Cemetery to decorate the graves of veterans for memorial day.
"It's basically to get people out here. To get them out here to experience the cemetery, to see what a respectful place this is for our veterans," said cemetery director Clint Lynch.
Volunteers quietly place flags on each grave sight. Some decorated the grave of a loved one, others use the day to do what they can for veterans.
"My grandfather served before me, and it's just an honor to do this little thing for the veterans," said Michael Haig, First Class Airman.
The volunteers from Dyess used today as an opportunity to remember and honor those who served before them, but it's also a chance to educate the younger ones on the importance of Memorial Day.
"It's an opportunity for them to learn about these individuals that are buried here, and veterans in general," said Lynch. "And give them an opportunity to learn how to honor and respect these people. And learn some patriotism by putting flags on their graves."
No matter what age the volunteer, everyone was out to remember those who served their country.
"It just touches your heart knowing that all of these people that you're putting these flags down for worked their hardest and just died for our country," said First Class Airman Danielle Moreno.
The State Veterans annual Memorial Day ceremony will be tomorrow at 11 am. The ceremony will honor WWII veterans.
