Cisco College Wranglers End Season As They Fall 9-2 To West Nevada

GRAND
JUNCTION, Colo. - Cisco College saw the most successful season in
program history come to an end with a 9-2 loss to Western Nevada College
at the National Junior College
Athletic Association World Series on Sunday afternoon at Sam Suplizio Field
in Grand Junction, Colo.
The Wranglers ended their season with a pair of losses in the World Series and finished with a 48-15 record, the best mark
in school history.
"I
am proud of this team, they made school history by winning the regional
and advancing to the World Series," said CC
head coach David White. "They left a legacy on the program and although
we came up short this weekend, it doesn't diminish anything that we have
done this year."
Cisco
ran into the top junior college prospect in the nation according to the
highly-respected Perfect Game scouting service.
Western Nevada's Dylan Baker was as good as advertised. Featuring a
fastball in the upper 90's he limited the Wranglers to two runs in seven
and one-third innings scattering seven hits and striking out 10 to
improve to 13-0.
He left with two runners on in the eighth inning, but Brandon Jackson got out of the inning and closed out the game for
his first save of the year.
WNC
scored a run on an RBI double by Rayne Raven in the second inning and
added five runs in the third inning. Bobby Pappin
tripled to lead off the inning and scored on a Neil Lawhorn single up
the middle. Another single and walk loaded the bases for Zach Hendrix
who had an RBI single to left and Dillon Ness followed with a three-run
double to center that made it 6-0.
The
score remained that way until the sixth inning when the Wranglers
struck against Baker. Alvaro Moreno had his third
hit of the afternoon with a single up the middle and Cody Tillotson
followed with a two-run home run to right field to make it 6-2.
Brad Vachon (8-4) took the loss for the Wranglers. He went six innings and allowed six runs on nine hits while striking
out five. Michael Salter relieved him and went the final three innings. He allowed three unearned runs in the ninth inning.
Lawhorn led the 12-hit NVC attack with three hits and Moreno had three hits and Tillotson added two for Cisco.
Western Nevada improved to 48-16 on the year and will play Iowa Western on Monday at 3 p.m.
