Now that your kids have a little extra time, how can you make sure they're getting the most out of their vacation? The Executive Director of the Redbud YMCA gave us a few details on what to expect from the "Y" this Summer.

"The YMCA just does so many different things with kids and the community," says Redbud Branch Executive Director Michael Talerico.

From traditional Summer day camps, to year-round preschool classes and of course both indoor and outdoor pools, the "Y" literally has it all.

"We'll be running basketball and volleyball this Summer," explains Talerico. "Currently we're running baseball for youth."

When the triple digits strike this summer, the YMCA pools offer a fun place to cool off with the entire family.

The State Street YMCA in Abilene features a five lane indoor pool, while the YMCA pool at Redbud is eight lanes wide.

"The Redbud also has a year-round swim team," says Talerico, "it's just a great way to get kids active during the Summer in a cool environment."

Don't know how to swim? No problem! Between the two YMCA locations in Abilene, Talerico says there are running around 56 classes each week for all levels of swimmers.

Besides staying physically fit and active, Talerico says the YMCA programs also help instill character among other essential values.

"We believe that everybody belongs at the 'Y,'" he explains. "Some of the things we focus on in all of our programs is a character development aspect. We believe in caring, honest, respect, and responsibility as being core values that we strive to work with in children."
