Fomer Colorado City quarterback Derek Gainey  is part of the North All-Star team in this year's Greathouse/FCA All-Star Classic.

Gainey is honored to be chosen, and he is following in his brother's footsteps, "My older brother got to play in it, and there were a couple other guys that I looked up to at the school that played in it. It's just a real big honor to get selected and play in it."

Gainey is going to miss playing in Colorado City and in the close games the Wolves found themselves in during his years at C. City. He said, "I've made a lot of really great friends through the Colorado City football program. Some of the games that I really like are the close ones. The fans don't really like them, but  the close ones are always the ones that I remember because they're just great to play in."

His time with the program has been a family affair Gainey. He says, "My dad's the offensive coordinator, and I just love to play for him, and Coach Johnson, I've known him my whole life. I just love all the coaches here. I'm just going to miss playing for them and playing for the teammates."

Gainey added, "Being in the organization(FCA) has really made me a better person and a better athlete because it's not just about me when I play, it's about the other guys and the coaches on my team making them better. Just thanking them for being there and thanking God for giving me the opportunity to be a part of what I have been a part of."

The Greathouse/FCA All-Star Classic is Saturday at 7. You can see that game live on KTAB. The girls basketball game is at Moody Coliseum at ACU. That game will tip at noon. You can watch it live on bigcountryhomepage.com.
