Lake J.B. Thomas Loses More Water, Snyder Water Usage Up Slightly

By: Snyder Daily News
Updated: May 31, 2012
Lake J.B. Thomas continues creeping toward being completely empty, losing even more water over the past week.

On Monday, the lake was 0.82 percent of capacity compared to 0.93 percent last week. The lake also currently sits at 1,641 acre-feet.

At this time last year, the lake was 3.8 percent full with 7,664 acre-feet of water.

Last week, Snyder went slightly above its daily water usage restrictions, averaging about 1.825 million gallons per day (mgd).

The city is now receiving water from the O.H. Ivie Reservoir, through the Colorado River Municipal Water District's (CRMWD) pipeline system. This is the same system that will allow Snyder to draw water from the district's wells in Ward County when a pipeline connecting those wells to the Odessa system is complete.

With the exception of Stanton, Snyder has the lowest usage of any municipality in the CRMWD, while Odessa and San Angelo have the highest.
