Updated: May 31, 2012
The Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau Sports Alliance is pleased to announce their 2012 scholarship recipients.

The Sports Alliance presented $8,000 in scholarships to 4 male and 4 female graduating student athletes from each of the local high schools: Abilene Christian, Abilene, Cooper, and Wylie high schools. These scholarships are awarded to student athletes displaying high character, integrity, sound judgment and are recognized as outstanding role models.

The scholarship recipients are:
  • Carlee Riggs and Robert Daniel Austin from Abilene Christian High School
  • Mackenzie Curnutt and Evan Willis from Abilene High School
  • Shelby Thompson and Ryan Conyer from Cooper High School
  • Christian Light and Matt McLeod from Wylie High School School
The Sports Alliance was formed in 2003 as a committee of the Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau and functions to support, promote and encourage sporting events in Abilene. To date, the Alliance has awarded $62,000 in scholarships to deserving graduates. The scholarships are supported by the success of the Action Sports Medicine Champions Classic held annually.

The enthusiasm this event has generated, not only locally, but at the state level has brought favorable attention to Shotwell Stadium allowing Abilene to showcase the continued updates that make Shotwell one of the most desirable stadiums in Texas.

Congratulations to the award winners and best of luck to all 2012 graduates!
