Until now, gun silencers, or suppressors, could be used for hunting specific animals, such as hogs. Soon, it will be fair game to hunt wild game using a gun suppressor.

Sanders Bailey, Range Officer at the Abilene Gun Club North Range, is excited about this new change, "I enjoy shooting and I've been shooting competetively all my life. And anything that enhances my ability to do that is a plus for me".

It's legal for people to use suppressors on their guns, as long as they hold a federal permit. Retired deputy sheriff, Al Woody, took his daughter out shooting for the first time today, and explains how it works, "It [the suppressor] is perforated to allow the gases to escape more slowly than they would normally escape just from the unrestricted end of the barrel".

Bailey says this new initiative will encourage people to exercise their Second Amendment rights, "'It expands the validity of personal gun ownership, and anything that does that, I'm in favor of".

For hunters and recreational shooters who enjoy coming out to the range here in Abilene, the legal gun suppressors will allow shooters to keep it a bit quieter.

The National Rifle Association says that Texans will be allowed to use these gun suppressors beginning September 1, 2012.
