A man was taken to jail after a Brown County Sheriff's Deputy stopped to check on his welfare Wednesday night.

Around 9:06 Wednesday night, BCSO Deputy Land noticed the man walking and due to the hot weather and his extremely sweaty appearance, stopped to check the man's welfare. The man, identified as 29-year-old Hollis Mack Davis of Cleburne, stated that he had just gotten out of jail and was trying to get to Brady for his grandmother's funeral, so the deputy offered him a ride back to town so that he would not get caught in bad weather that was heading toward the area, the report states.

Before letting Davis into his car, the deputy had to run a warrants check and advised Davis that he would need to search him, according to the deputy. Davis agreed and began emptying his pockets, handing the deputy a blue toilet paper wrapper which contained what Davis said was tobacco.

However, due to its odor, the deputy recognized it as marijuana, the report states. Davis said he found it on the roadside as he was walking, according to the deputy. In the same wrapping was a cellophane baggie with under a gram of methamphetamine, and at that time Davis admitted that he knew it was marijuana and meth when he picked it up and that he was debating whether or not to smoke it.

The evidence was seized and Davis was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance penalty grade 1 less than 1 gram and possession of marijuana.
