10:45 a.m. Update:
Police have identified the reckless driver charged with DWI after causing an accident by driving the wrong way down Interstate 20.

Chase Brandon Clower, 21, was arrested after causing an accident and hitting a police car.

The accident sent Zayn Wendell Quinlan to Hendrick Medical Center where he is in serious condition.

Original Story:
Police arrested a man whose reckless driving sent one person to the hospital early Friday morning.

APD reports receiving numerous calls about a person driving a Dodge pickup truck the wrong way on Interstate 20 around 1:45 a.m.

A short time later, officers were called to the scene of an accident near mile marker 285 on Interstate 20 which a witness said was caused by the reckless driver.

The investigation into the accident showed that a Jeep Cherokee swerved to avoid the reckless driver, lost control and flipped over. The only person in the Jeep had to be removed from the vehicle by the Abilene Fire Department, and was taken to Hendrick Medical Center in serious condition.

During the investigation, a witness told police that the reckless driver had turned around and was driving back toward them. He continued all the way back near the scene of the accident where he hit a police car, causing minor damage.

As another officer vehicle approached the reckless driver, he backed up and began to flee the scene of the second accident, but was eventually contacted by an officer in the 800 block of East Stamford Street.

The driver failed a standardized field sobriety test and was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Too bad he only had a $1000 bond, and is already back on the street!
