Brownwood Police are searching for the driver of a pickup after it struck a home in the 3600 block of Fourth Street Friday morning causing damage to the truck and the home. When police arrived around 7:00, no one was in the pickup, but blood was visible in and around the vehicle.

Brownwood Police were dispatched shortly after 7:00 Friday to a suspicious call after a passing motorist reported what appeared to be a pickup that had crashed into a home.

According to BPD Assistant Chief James Fuller, the 1972 Chevy pickup had hit the brick home of an elderly resident, who was asleep at the time. The pickup struck a front bedroom which was unoccupied at the time of the accident. The resident of the home was uninjured and unaware of what happened.

Police are uncertain of the time the accident occurred, but the resident reported hearing a loud noise around 2:00 a.m. The resident thought it sounded like a picture frame falling, the report states. The wall of the bedroom impacted by the vehicle was cracked from floor to ceiling and the baseboard along the wall was damaged, according to the report.

Fuller said they were unable to contact the registered owner of the vehicle, but the mother of the registered owner was reached by phone. She is currently in Killeen and told police that her son should be in California and had been trying to sell the vehicle, according to the report.

The identities of the driver and a possible occupant of the truck remain unknown as of late Friday morning, Fuller said. Paperwork belonging to a female was found inside the vehicle, but an attempt to contact her was unsuccessful, Fuller said.

Investigation of the accident is ongoing. Pictures contributed by Jay McBride.
