Abilene Police Sergeant Retires After More Than 32 Years

By: Adam Singleton
Updated: June 1, 2012
The Abilene Police Department said goodbye to a long time officer on Friday.

Sergeant Mike Phipps of the Crimes Against Property Unit celebrated his retirement from the police force after more than 32 years on the job.

"I feel like I'm a little bit too young to retire, even if it has been almost 33 years. Police work is a young man's profession and it was just time for me to move on," said Phipps.

Sergeant Phipps plans to stay in the business more or less. He starts next week as an investigator for the district attorney's office.
