The 2012 Wayne Ramsey Memorial Golf Classic took place earlier today at the Diamondback Golf Club in Abilene. Some of the events included a 10K putting contest and a Million Dollar Hole-In-One Shootout. The tournament is in memory of Wayne Ramsey, who was a well known radiologist that passed away from cancer. The event aims to benefit the American Cancer Society in their research to eliminate cancer through education, service and advocacy.
"There's not very many people that you or I, or anybody else knows that haven't had a friend or family member affected by cancer," says Mich Dumas, co-chair of the Wayne Ramsey Golf Classic. "I think out of all the charities that are out there, this is probably the one that really affects a lot of friends and family and really garners the most support."
Over one hundred golfers participated in the tournament. This event typically raises $15,000-20,000 every year for the American Cancer Society.
