A Brownwood man was arrested Friday after he fled from police and made a false 911 call to divert officers in an attempt to escape capture, according to law enforcement officials.

A Brownwood Police narcotics officer and Brown County Sheriff's investigator were looking for two wanted people on Friday, when they received information that they were possibly together at a residence on Gifford Street.

According to the report, around 5:00 p.m., Arthur Lopez was seen leaving the residence in a vehicle so the officers activated their emergency lights on the unmarked vehicle and attempted to make a stop on the vehicle. Lopez reportedly ignored the lights, turned onto Hall Street and eventually parked near a residence in the 1200 block of Hall Street, and then fled on foot through several yards. According to the report, an eye witness was able to use a cellphone to video Lopez entering a residence on Hall Street. Several officers arrived to form a perimeter around the residence.

While this was occurring, a person called 911 claiming that they were being held at gunpoint at a residence on Magnolia Street, but could not remember their address. The dispatcher pinged the cellphone and found it to be located at the residence in the 1200 block of Hall Street, where Lopez had been seen entering.

Officers entered the residence where Lopez was found hiding in a closet, according to the report.  Lopez was arrested and charged with evading arrest, evading arrest with vehicle, false report to law enforcement employee and for five outstanding warrants.
