Local law enforcement will now have a large amount of grant money to use toward updating equipment.

Taylor County Commissioners approved a $47,000 grant for the Abilene Police Department and Taylor County Sheriff.

The Edward G. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant is a federally funded grant to help local law enforcement create programs and improve technology.

APD and the Taylor County Sheriff's Office say the money will go towards aging video equipment and ballistic shields for first responders.
