Taylor Co. Commissioners Consider Courthouse Changes

By: Katie Thompson
Updated: June 5, 2012
Taylor County Commissioners took a first look into what could become major renovations to the courthouse, plaza and old courthouse over the next several years.

Architect group Tittle Luther Partnerships presented a preliminary plan that outlines five recommended phases of renovations totaling over $8 million.

This would include adding more courtrooms and offices, as well as improving inmate security at the courthouse and plaza.

The architects have been in discussion with county and city departments to get their input on what would improve space issues and overall functionality.

Another discussion is whether to renovate the old courthouse for functionality or to go through with a complete historical restoration, which would add an additional $8-9 million to the cost of the project.

The plan is in its preliminary stages so no final decision was made.

The proposed renovations would take place over the next several years.
