"In school we go from subject to subject, here at the camps, they spend a full five hours learning new things and how to expand their technology skills," said camp instructor Shane Gilley.
AISD students are learning more than technology at this camp. One class uses Lego robotics to create and learn more about animals and music.
"They tie it into learning about monkeys and primates and their habitat. And we're actually tying it into music too, and drums and the different things that you can learn with beats and tempos," said Amy Patton, camp instructor.
Another section uses robotics and software to help teach students problem solving.
"They're not afraid to try things," said Glen Freeman, instructor. "They get to try programs and if it doesn't work they get to problem solve and try again. If the robot doesn't work, the machine doesn't work, they get to rebuild."
And those QR codes that smartphones can scan? Elementary students are learning how to create those quick response codes. And they aren't simple ones, either.
"Instead of just a plain-Jane QR code like you might see in a magazine," said Gilley. "Our students are learning how to add color and picture and designs to their QR codes."
Learning these skills at a young age can make technology fun, but it's also preparing students for the future.
"Learning these technology skills at such a young age will give our students a curve ahead of life with their technology skills to succeed in life," Gilley said.
