ACU's Hermsdorf Honored With Spot On Academic All-America Third Team

ABILENE - The College Sports Information Directors of America
(CoSIDA) Wednesday named Abilene Christian sophomore tennis player Micah
Hermsdorf to the Capital One Academic All-America Division II At-Large
third team. This award, which is among the most
prestigious in all of collegiate athletics, is presented to those
student-athletes who have achieved greatness both on the court and in
the classroom.
An advertising and public relations major, Hermsdorf has maintained a 4.0 grade-point average while excelling as one of the Wildcats' top-line competitors.
Hermsdorf recently was named All-America by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association after finishing the spring ranked fourth nationally in doubles with junior Hannah Kelley. She and Kelley together won 18 matches, which included an 8-1 win over the third-ranked Lynn University duo of Ioana Ivan and Sabine Krause during the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship, as well as a marathon 9-8 (23-21) decision against New Mexico State's Natalia Salum and Manon Sylvain.
As a singles player, Hermsdorf primarily competed at the No. 2 position where she recorded a mark of 16-2. She also went 5-2 at No. 1, and 1-0 at No. 3.
The Spring, Texas, native this season also earned spots on the All-Lone Star Conference singles and doubles teams and the title of Lone Star Conference Women's Tennis Academic Player of the Year.
ACU's student-athletes have collectively earned 76 Academic All-America citations, which is the third highest total among all Texas schools behind only the University of Texas and Rice. The Wildcats rank ahead of Baylor, Texas A&M and Southern Methodist.
Hermsdorf is the 50th individual Wildcat and sixth member of the ACU women's tennis team to be named Academic All-America, joining a list that also includes Donna Sykes (1989), Keri Whitehead (1994, three-time winner Julie Mavity (1997-99), Jenny Wallace (2000) and Lacy Johnson (2003).
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Eligible sports for the at-large program include bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, men's volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
