City of Abilene Set for 'Be Kind to Animals Week'

The City of Abilene, along with Animal Services and the Abilene Zoo, is celebrating Be Kind to Animals Week Sunday, June 10 through Saturday, June 16.

Citizens are encouraged to join in the festivities each day of the week: Sunday - Adopt a Zoo Animal! Your donation will fund improvements and enrichment toys in your adopted animal's habitat. For more information, go to http://www.abilenezoo.org/adopt.html

Monday - Donate dry dog food, dry cat food and kitty litter to a local animal shelter- Abilene Animal Shelter, 925 South 25th Street; Taylor Jones Humane Society, 2301 North 3rd Street; or Rescue the Animals, SPCA, 5933 South 1st Street

Tuesday - Take your companion animal to the veterinarian for their yearly check-up, rabies vaccination and city license tag

Wednesday - Free flea and tick dips for dogs available at the Abilene Animal Shelter

Thursday - Volunteer at a local shelter

Friday - Take your dog to Camp Barkeley Dog Park located at Nelson Park by the Abilene Zoo entrance

The City of Abilene's Animal Shelter is located at 925 South 25th Street. For more information about Animal Services, call 325-698-0085 or visit www.abilenetx.com/animal.
