Speaking Up Gets Results; Abilene Driver Pleased With City Response To Complaint

Last week, a fed up driver shared his frustration about damage a pot hole at the intersection of North 1st and Plaza Street was causing drivers.

Now, less than a week after his story aired, the problem no longer exists.

Steve Gonzales says, "It's not the best job, but it's done. We can drive over it at least, now."

After initially saying the work at that particular intersection had been completed, the City of Abilene sent crews out to repair the pothole, and says it was just routine maintenance.

"I'm very appreciative of what they've done and I'm glad they took the time out to come out here and fix this pot hole. As well as I've talked to other neighbors around the neighborhood. They're also happy they're not driving over the potholes no longer."

While Gonzales is extremely grateful that his voice was heard, he still says there are other issues that need to be taken care of in the community, especially when it comes to equal treatment of the north and south sides of the city.

"Well that's still up in the air as you could say because there's still a lot to be done in this neighborhood. There's still a lot of trash in the alleys," Gonzales continues.

Nevertheless, Gonzales is happy to get the problem resolved.

He says, "I encourage everyone to get involved because this is all our community, this is all of our city so we should all take the time to get involved."
