By: Officer George Spindler, APD
Updated: June 13, 2012
Yesterday at about 12:25 p.m., Officer Mike Janusz was dispatched to a theft in progress call at a business in the 1300 block of Barrow Street. APD Dispatch was notified by an employee that a male suspect had just left the store with a package of cooked food. The suspect's description and direction of travel were given to the call taker. The employee did an excellent job as a witness and monitored the suspect's getaway, all the while keeping APD Dispatch informed. The calling party eventually lost sight of the suspect as other officers converged to the area. Officer Loren Adlesperger was nearby and located the suspect after the suspect went into a resident's backyard in the 3000 block of Bickley and tried hiding in an open shed. The investigation also revealed that the stolen food was placed inside the shed. The food was recovered and the man was arrested for theft.

Last night at about 10:25, Officer Andrew Valdez contacted a female occupant in a vehicle parked in a parking lot in the 2700 block of North First Street. During that contact, Officer Valdez observed a pair of knuckles that were lying out in the open inside the vehicle. Officer Valdez was assisted by a K-9 officer during this contact. During the investigation, the K-9 alerted on the vehicle for the presence of narcotics. A search of the vehicle revealed a small baggie containing a small quantity of marijuana. Additional contraband consisting of needles, pipes, plastic baggies and other paraphernalia were located along with another prohibited weapon, a butterfly knife. The female subject was arrested for possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of marijuana and for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Last night at about 11:00, Officer Damien Hutchinson was dispatched to an injured subject call at a residence in the 1600 block of Beech Street. A female victim had notified APD Dispatch that she was assaulted by a known male subject. Officer Hutchinson arrived and his investigation revealed that the female victim alleged that she was struck in the face by the suspect while she attempted to intervene in a physical altercation between the victim's son and the alleged male suspect. Officer Hutchinson spoke to all involved parties and learned that the female victim was described as the aggressor in this incident. There were no visible signs of injury, but the female victim claimed her jaw was sore. She was taken to Hendrick Medical Center in good condition. An incident report was taken for the offense of assault.
