A group of men and women
on a 3,000-mile bicycle trip this
summer will stop in Snyder on
June 21 as part of a mission to
raise funds for sub-Sahara Africa.
The Ride:Well Tour is traveling coast-to-coast, beginning in San Diego and ending in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Snyder will be one of the stops in Texas, and the group also will make stops in Arizona and Tennessee.
The ride is an effort to raise funds and awareness for both the water and HIV/AIDS crisis in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The riders will stay at churches and attend events throughout their journey to speak and educate communities about Blood:Water Mission, an organization that seeks to empower communities to work together against the water and HIV/AIDS crises in Africa. Since its inception in 2004, Blood:Water Mission has funded clean water projects in over 1,000 communities and started three HIV/AIDS clinics in Africa.
Blood:Water Mission was founded by Grammy Award winning band Jars of Clay in 2005 as a call to personalize the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa. After funding a late stage AIDS hospice and discovering the vital link between living with HIV/AIDS and the need for clean, safe water, Blood:Water launched nationwide effort to provide clean water and sanitation to 1,000 communities in sub-Saharan Africa based on the equation that $1 provides one African with clean water for an entire year.
The funds raised by the Ride:Well team will go specifically to the Marsabit region of Kenya, an area in the Horn of Africa that has been severely affected by the recent drought.
Past Ride:Well teams have raised nearly $500,000 to support the Tumaini Medical Center and multiple water projects.
