What started as an interest for a young Abilene woman, has evolved into a means of changing lives.

Jessalyn Massingill is a local artist, who fell in love with Zambia at a young age, and recognized an opportunity to make a difference outside of Abilene.

"My experience in Zambia got started when I was about eight. And that wasn't about art, and it wasn't about film. I was just going with my family on a medical mission", Massingill tells us.

Her travels to Zambia inspired her to document her experience and share it with the community back home. "For people in Abilene, I think the thing to grab hold of is you don't have to leave the country to be a part of it. And that is why this is called 'The Joyful Noise Project', and that's the idea of it".

Last year's documentary focused on medical treatments for eyes. This year, a different tune brings her back to Zambia: 'The Joyful Noise Project'.

"Medically, the idea this time is to use that concept of 'voices' to show different aspects of the hospital and medical conditions and things of that nature", says Massingill.

Massingill tells us in the past few years over 100 people from the Abilene community have joined her and her family on various mission trips to improve healthcare standards and overall quality of life for Zambians.

'The Joyful Noise Project' will debut at the Paramount Theater on September 29th. For more information on the Zambia Missions or how you can help, visit Massingill's Fundraising Page or the Zambia Missions Page.
