The former director of the Taylor County Substance Abuse Treatment Facility has been sentenced in federal court.

Charles Linwood Heard, 55, was arrested at the Mall of Abilene late last year by Abilene Police and Homeland Security after a 40-day joint investigation and sting.

The operation consisted of agents posing as a 15-year-old boy who was supposed to meet with Heard for sexual purposes.

The communication between Heard and the agents included emails and text messages.

Heard pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of attempting to transfer obscene material to a minor.

He will spend three years in federal prison.
