Jeff Southern will go up twice today -- around 3 p.m. and about 5:30 p.m. -- to advertise the air show in the sky.
"He's going to cover the sky with it, so that locals can look up and see that," said air show coordinator John Rogotzke.
Bob Carlton of Albuquerque will then perform an aerobatic pyrotechnical show in his jet glider as soon as the sun goes down. All of today's events will be free.
On Saturday, a dawn patrol formation will fly over Snyder, and pilots landing for the Fly- In are being asked to circle the town on approach.
Breakfast burritos and drinks will be for sale from local vendors starting at 8 a.m., and the Civilian Air Patrol of Lubbock will provide security.
The festivities will begin with a car and motorcycle show. Awards will be presented to the winners of the show at 11:30 a.m. During the awards ceremony, pilots will receive a briefing amd take off shortly thereafter.
Events scheduled for the air show include low-level aerobatics and re-enactments that can only be seen from Winston Field.
Those who attend are asked to bring lawn chairs. Cost is $5 per person and children 12 and under will get in free of charge.
Anyone bringing pets is asked to carry their pet at all times.
"Come on out and enjoy," said Rogotzke.
