He says a lot of teens don't care about protective sex they just go for it, but Taron credits his sex education for keeping him in line.
For some like this 13 year old - we'll call Anthony - fear is his biggest protection.
He says it makes him worried because unprotected sex could ruin his life.
Pamela Thomas contracted HIV in 2010. She has made it her mission to make sure young people know they can not just trust a sexual partner.
To her everyday is a struggle.
Health officials are encouraging parents to be direct with their children to prevent a tragedy.
