Muscles for Muscles Car Show Raises Money for MDA

"I built a couple cars in the mid to late '90s. And went to thousands of car shows, I think, all over the United States," said Mike Turner.

Turner has always loved working on cars.

"It's good to be able to do something like that and then see the fruits of your labor go out on the road," he said.

Mike rebuilt cars until his muscular dystrophy made it impossible to do so. That's why he was out at the 3rd Annual Muscles for Muscles Car Show, to help raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

"It takes a lot of money to do the research, pay for clinic visits, we send kids to MDA summer camp. All of those come out of fundraisers such as this," said Lori Seymore, fundraising coordinator for MDA.

And the large turnout showed the community's support.

"We've got a lot of support from car dealers, auto parts stores, furniture stores, tire stores. Everyone has really pitched in and donated and helped us out a lot," said Steve Longmire, judges coordinator of the Big Country Car Club.

Even though he can't work on cars anymore, Tuner's not letting his muscular dystrophy get to him, and he's still building things.

"A lot of furniture a lot of, just basically anything custom furniture and stuff like that," he described.

Turner said he already had a background in wood work, so he turned to that when he could not longer build cars.

"When you've worked all your life and were able to get around to do things that you want to do, the only you can do is find something that keeps you busy," he said. "And I'm not going to stop doing things."

The Big Country Car Club was looking to raise over $3500 with today's car show.
