Monday Afternoon Update:
A spokesperson from Union Pacific Railroad says 24 cars were derailed late Sunday night when a train went off the tracks north of Interstate 20 near Cisco.

According to the spokesperson, two of the cars that derailed were breached, and one was carrying petroleum and the other methanol. The chemicals then spilled into a creek and were carried into Bernie Lake.

Water from Bernie Lake is not used for consumption, but officials are gathering water samples regularly.

Union Pacific says the cleanup process will likely take weeks to complete.

The Department of Public Safety reports a train was derailed west of Cisco just before midnight.

There were no initial reports of any injuries, and no hazardous materials involved.

The area was swamped by heavy thunderstorms last week, but it is currently unknown if that may have contributed to the derailment.
